Recently, on May 29-30, a significant event took place at the Harbourpoint Convention Centre in Lami, focusing on discussions aimed at enhancing the participation of iTaukei people in the business sector. This meeting was organized by the Fiji Indigenous Business Council (FIBC), chaired by Ulaisi Taoi.
Following two days of discussions, several resolutions were made to facilitate the establishment of various plans. Notably, a new office space for the FIBC was confirmed during these discussions. According to Taoi, this new office will greatly support 91 businesses currently registered with the FIBC by providing direct access to resources and networking opportunities.
Taoi emphasized that the new office space is key for fostering relationships essential for business growth. He noted that ongoing meetings would occur weekly, ensuring continuous collaboration among members.
The new office will include a boardroom, training facilities for leadership development, a secretariat, and several private workspaces (cubicles) to facilitate effective communication and productivity. Furthermore, Taoi mentioned the importance of training regarding financial management, compliance, and other relevant business areas to help local entrepreneurs thrive.
This initiative marks a significant step forward in creating an ecosystem that encourages entrepreneurship among the iTaukei community. It underlines the commitment of the FIBC to support local businesses by providing the necessary tools and environment for success.
The office is expected to be operational by November 28, with plans for additional offices in Lautoka, Labasa, and Rakiraki.
In summary, this development reflects the proactive steps being taken to empower the iTaukei business community, emphasizing collaboration and resource-sharing. Such initiatives inspire hope for a more inclusive and prosperous business environment in Fiji.
