Training during the festive season presents its challenges, as noted by Sefanaia Vuli, captain of the Lavidi Brothers. The team is gearing up for the upcoming McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s, scheduled to take place from January 16-18 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, where they will compete among 16 teams in the men’s division.
Vuli remarked on the difficulties in maintaining a training regimen during this time of year, as many players were absent last week due to family commitments and celebrations during Christmas and New Year. He pointed out the distractions, including family gatherings and traditional kava drinking, that hinder regular training.
Despite these challenges, the team is making efforts to stay on track, with many players attending training sessions at the Sigatoka sand dunes. Vuli, a former national sevens squad member, expressed his aspiration to return to the national side. He has had a brief spell with the Kaiviti Silktails before transitioning back to rugby union.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining consistency in fitness and performance, recognizing that the Coral Coast 7s is among the toughest sevens tournaments in Fiji. With former captain George Bose now on the national team, Vuli is hopeful that other players will seize the opportunity to showcase their abilities in Sigatoka.
His personal goal for the year is to earn a spot back on the national sevens team, stating that he is prepared to answer the call should the opportunity arise. Two other notable players on the Lavidi Brothers team include national sevens squad members Iosefo Namoce and Livai Ikanikoda. Recently, the Lavidi Brothers secured the runner-up position at the 31st R.C Manubhai Nataleira 7s held at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.
This article highlights the determination and spirit of the Lavidi Brothers as they navigate the festive season while preparing for a significant tournament. Their commitment to training and aspirations for both team and individual success serve as an inspiring reminder of the dedication of athletes, even in the face of distractions.
In summary, while the festive season brings its own set of challenges, the Lavidi Brothers are committed to overcoming obstacles and performing at their best in the Coral Coast 7s, showcasing their talent and passion for the sport.
