Drug enforcement efforts have ramped up in anticipation of the festive season, aiming to disrupt the drug supply market. Police in Savusavu reported the arrest of five individuals during drug raids, who were found with dried leaves suspected to be marijuana. Additionally, in the Central Division, a man in his 50s was detained at a carrier stand for possessing similar substances.
In Nabua, a man in his 20s was taken into custody along Mead Road after he was discovered carrying multiple sachets of dried leaves, a plastic bag of seeds believed to be marijuana, and a zip-lock bag containing white crystals suspected to be methamphetamine. Moreover, an 18-year-old man was arrested in Sigatoka Town when over 50 dried branches and loose leaves thought to be marijuana were found in his possession.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu emphasized that ongoing divisional operations will also prioritize school and community awareness to address drug-related issues. He highlighted the importance of proactive community policing in reducing the impact of drugs on families and neighborhoods, stressing that sharing information can significantly aid law enforcement in their efforts to diminish drug supply.
