Law enforcement agencies are ramping up drug operations in anticipation of the festive season to hinder and disrupt the drug supply chain.
In Savusavu, police apprehended five suspects during a series of drug raids, where they discovered dried leaves thought to be marijuana in the suspects’ possession. Similarly, in the Central Division, a man in his 50s was arrested at a carrier stand for possessing marijuana.
In another incident in Nabua, a man in his 20s was taken into custody along Mead Road with various sachets of dried leaves, a plastic bag containing seeds believed to be marijuana, and a zip-lock bag containing white crystals that are suspected to be methamphetamine.
Additionally, an 18-year-old was arrested in Sigatoka Town after being found with over 50 dried branches and loose leaves, also thought to be marijuana.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu mentioned that upcoming operations will emphasize raising awareness in schools and communities. He emphasized that proactive community policing is essential for lessening the negative effects of drugs on families and neighborhoods. ACP Driu highlighted that sharing information is invaluable for law enforcement in their efforts to curtail the drug supply.
