As the festive season approaches, the Fiji Police Force is ramping up its operations to ensure the safety and security of the community. The initiative began yesterday, with officers receiving clear instructions on the significance of this heightened activity.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized the importance of this early start, stating it serves as a reminder for everyone to prioritize their safety while engaging in festive activities. “We want to remind everyone to be mindful of their safety when traveling on the road, shopping, enjoying picnics by the sea, or simply spending time with friends,” Driu noted.
The increased police presence is intended for the collective safety of the public, but Driu highlighted that personal responsibility is a crucial aspect of safety. “Safety starts with each individual. We are here to maintain law and order and assist our stakeholders in monitoring movements, particularly on our roads,” he explained.
The Fiji Police Force aims for an incident-free festive period and is urging the public to collaborate in this endeavor. “Police cannot do this alone; we need your support to ensure safety on the roads, at sea, in towns, cities, and at home with your families,” he stated.
Residents can expect to see officers actively patrolling towns and cities, roads, highways, community areas, picnic locations, schools, and businesses throughout the festive period.
As the community prepares for celebrations, this proactive approach by the Fiji Police Force fosters a sense of security that can enhance the joy of the season. By working together, police and citizens can create a safer environment for everyone to enjoy the festivities.
