Thirteen individuals were apprehended yesterday in connection with possession of illegal drugs during a police operation targeting drug-related activities.
Among those arrested were a 33-year-old carpenter and a 47-year-old security guard, who were caught at the Nadonumai Roadblock with small plastic bags containing white crystals. In a separate incident in Waiyavi, Lautoka, police conducted a raid that led to the arrest of four individuals, where they discovered white crystals, drug smoking paraphernalia, and cash suspected to be from drug sales.
A 32-year-old mechanic from Waimalika Sabeto was arrested at the Sanasana grounds after being found with six bags of white crystals. Additionally, a 29-year-old man from Semo, Sigatoka, was taken into custody at the Ciri Junction bus shelter for possessing seven marijuana plants. A 46-year-old farmer from Navosa was apprehended at the Nadi Bus Stand with 161 branches of suspected marijuana and cash believed to be from drug transactions. Lastly, a 24-year-old man from Natutu, Ba, was arrested at the Ba Market area with eight sachets of dried leaves wrapped in aluminum foil, also believed to contain marijuana.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu noted that these arrests were part of the police’s initial efforts for the Festive Season, signaling a heightened vigilance in combating drug-related crimes during this period.
