Authorities have reported seizures of substances believed to be marijuana across all five policing divisions, a result of enhanced information-sharing among law enforcement agencies.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) Livai Driu indicated that drug operations are intensifying as the festive season approaches, aiming to disrupt and destabilize the drug supply market.
During recent raids in Savusavu, five suspects were arrested for allegedly possessing dried leaves thought to be marijuana. In the Central Division of Suva, a man in his 50s was apprehended at a carrier stand for similar possession.
Additionally, along Mead Road in Nabua, a man in his 20s was arrested after being found with multiple sachets of dried leaves, along with a plastic zip-lock bag containing seeds believed to be marijuana and another bag with white crystals, presumed to be methamphetamine.
In the Western Division, an 18-year-old man was arrested in Sigatoka for possessing over 50 dried branches and loose leaves, also thought to be marijuana.
ACP Driu stated that police operations at divisional levels would increase their focus on school and community awareness programs. He emphasized that the effective sharing of information greatly contributes to law enforcement’s efforts in reducing drug supply.
