Festivals and Friendships: How One Event Raised Over $300K

The recent Vodafone Festival of the Friendly North concluded with an impressive fundraising total of $327,000. Festival committee president, Zaheen Ibrahim, announced this record amount during a thanksgiving event held on Saturday in Labasa. The festival took place at Subrail Park from August 31 to September 7.

As the first female president of the festival committee, Ms. Ibrahim highlighted the successful outcome of seven months of planning and the dedication of the organizers, volunteers, and sponsors. She emphasized the importance of the relationships formed among committee members and volunteers, stating that their teamwork was essential to the festival’s success.

During her speech, Ms. Ibrahim praised the hard work, resilience, and commitment of the committee members. She acknowledged their ability to overcome challenges throughout the preparation process. In recognition of their efforts, special plaques and certificates were awarded to committee members. She also expressed gratitude to major sponsors like Vodafone Fiji and other corporate supporters, asserting that their financial backing was critical to the festival’s success.

Looking forward, Ms. Ibrahim expressed hope for continued sponsorship in the future. Nilesh Singh, Vodafone’s head of recharge and operations, assured attendees that the company would maintain its partnership, emphasizing the importance of community outreach.

The festival featured high-quality performances, as Ms. Ibrahim noted the selection of exceptional contestants who showcased their talents over the week. She also recognized the crucial support of contestants’ families in encouraging them to excel.

Among the festival’s philanthropic projects is the construction of washroom facilities at Subrail Park ground two, along with a donation of musical equipment to Nabala Secondary School. Additional projects funded by the festival charity are set to commence soon.
