The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has informed the Ministry of Employment, Productivity, and Workplace Relations that the complete report regarding the Ferris wheel accident cannot be disclosed to the media due to its status as a trialable case. This information was shared by the Minister for Employment, Agni Deo Singh, during a parliamentary session last Friday.

Singh explained that this restriction is the reason the Ministry submitted its findings to the ODPP. He noted that the ODPP is still awaiting the completion of the police investigation and their subsequent recommendations.

He confirmed that the investigations are ongoing, as Ministry staff were interviewed last week. “The Fiji Police Force has been carrying out its investigation as well,” he stated.

Singh added that the National Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Service of the Ministry had completed a thorough investigation into last year’s Ferris wheel incident. The comprehensive Accident Investigation Report was compiled and submitted to the ODPP in December 2023. The Ministry identified and filed the alleged breaches that may have contributed to the accident, adhering to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1996 and its associated regulations. Additionally, the Ministry of Public Works conducted an investigation into the mechanical aspects of the ride, including an engineering assessment.
