The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has informed the Ministry of Employment, Productivity, and Workplace Relations that it cannot disclose the complete report regarding the Ferris wheel accident to the media, as the case is subject to trial. This information was shared by Agni Deo Singh, the Minister Responsible for Employment, during a parliamentary session last Friday.
Singh explained that the Ministry submitted its findings to the ODPP for this reason. He noted that the ODPP is currently awaiting the completion of the police investigation and the submission of their recommendations. Investigations are still in progress, with Ministry staff having been interviewed last week.
“The Fiji Police Force is actively conducting its investigation as well,” Singh stated. He added that the National OHS Service within the Ministry has finalized a comprehensive investigation into the Ferris wheel incident that took place last year.
The full Accident Investigation Report was completed and sent to the ODPP in December 2023. The Ministry identified and documented the alleged violations that led to the accident, in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1996 and its related regulations. Additionally, the Ministry of Public Works carried out its own investigation, focusing on the mechanical aspects and performing an engineering assessment of the ride.
