The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has informed the Ministry of Employment, Productivity, and Workplace Relations that they cannot release the complete report regarding the Ferris wheel accident to the media due to the ongoing legal proceedings. This information was disclosed by Minister Agni Deo Singh in Parliament last Friday.
According to Singh, this is the reason why the Ministry has submitted its findings to the Director of Public Prosecutions. He mentioned that they are currently awaiting the completion of the police investigation and the delivery of their recommendations.
Singh confirmed that investigations are still active, noting that Ministry staff were interviewed last week. He remarked that the Fiji Police Force is also conducting its investigation into the matter.
The Ministry, through the National OHS Service, has completed a thorough investigation into the Ferris wheel accident that took place last year. Singh stated that the full Accident Investigation Report was compiled and submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions in December 2023. Furthermore, the Ministry identified potential breaches that contributed to the accident, aligning with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1996 and its related regulations.
He added that the Ministry of Public Works has also carried out an investigation focusing on the mechanical aspects and conducted an engineering examination of the ride.
