A man has been sentenced to 13 years, 11 months, and 10 days in prison for raping his oldest daughter in 2017, according to a ruling by the High Court in Suva. The sentencing took place before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe on Wednesday, where the man pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual assault and two counts of rape as brought forth by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The court revealed that the offenses occurred on five separate occasions between 2017 and 2020. Despite repeatedly seeking forgiveness from both his wife and daughter, the man continued to commit the crimes, suggesting a lack of remorse. A medical report presented by the prosecution corroborated the charges against him.
The court noted that the offender was married with five children. His sentence includes a non-parole period of 12 years.
