A man convicted of raping his eldest daughter in 2017 has been sentenced to 13 years, 11 months, and 10 days in prison by the High Court in Suva. The sentencing occurred on Friday before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe, following the man’s guilty pleas to three counts of sexual assault and two counts of rape, as presented by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The court acknowledged that the offenses took place on five different occasions between 2017 and 2020. Despite repeatedly asking for forgiveness from both his wife and daughter, he continued to commit these acts, indicating a lack of remorse for his actions.
The prosecution submitted a medical report that corroborated the daughter’s allegations against her father. The court’s judgment revealed that the man was married and had five children. He will serve a non-parole period of 12 years as part of his sentence.
