A man who sexually assaulted his daughter multiple times has been sentenced to 13 years in prison, with the requirement that he serve at least 12 years before being eligible for parole. The ruling was made by Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu in the High Court in Suva last week.
The 44-year-old man was found guilty of two counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault against his daughter, which took place from December 1, 2017, when she was 15, until December 31, 2020, when she turned 18. The crimes occurred within their family home while other family members were asleep.
The situation was uncovered after the girl’s mother inquired whether her father had engaged in any non-consensual activities with her. Following this, the accused expressed remorse to the family and vowed to abandon his harmful behavior, but he repeated the offenses in 2020.
