A man convicted of raping his eldest daughter in 2017 has been sentenced to 13 years, 11 months, and 10 days in prison by the High Court in Suva. The sentencing took place on Wednesday before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe, following the man’s guilty pleas to three counts of sexual assault and two counts of rape, as charged by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The offenses occurred on five different occasions between 2017 and 2020. During the court proceedings, it was revealed that the man repeatedly sought forgiveness from both his wife and daughter despite his continued criminal behavior, suggesting a lack of genuine remorse for his actions. A medical report presented by the prosecution corroborated the victim’s claims against her father.
The court noted that the man, who is married and has five children, will serve his sentence with a non-parole period of 12 years.
