A man who was charged with raping his oldest daughter in 2017 has been sentenced to 13 years, 11 months, and 10 days in prison by the High Court in Suva. The sentence was handed down by Justice Thushara Rajasinghe on Wednesday, after the man pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual assault and two counts of rape, as filed by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The court heard that the offenses took place on five separate occasions between 2017 and 2020. Despite his repeated actions, the man had sought forgiveness from both his wife and daughter. The prosecution presented a medical report that confirmed the charges against him.
Additionally, the judgment revealed that he was married and had five children. His persistent offenses and requests for forgiveness were viewed as lacking genuine remorse for his actions. He will serve a non-parole period of 12 years as part of his sentence.
