A man has been sentenced to 13 years, 11 months, and 10 days in prison by the High Court in Suva for raping his eldest daughter in 2017. The sentencing took place on Friday after the man appeared before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe. He pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual assault and two counts of rape, as charged by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The court heard that the man committed his offenses on five separate occasions between 2017 and 2020. Despite his repeated actions, he sought forgiveness from both his wife and daughter. The prosecution presented the victim’s medical report, which substantiated the charges against him.
According to court records, the man was married and had five children. However, his ongoing offenses and lack of genuine remorse for his actions were emphasized during the proceedings. His sentence includes a non-parole period of 12 years.
