A father has been found guilty of sexual offenses against his biological daughter, as ruled by Lautoka judge Justice Sunil Sharma. The conviction includes two counts of sexual assault and one count of rape related to incidents that took place last year and the current year.
Evidence presented in court revealed that the father carried out the assaults at the home of the girl’s grandmother. The first incident occurred after the complainant left the washroom, during which she informed her mother about her father’s harassment. A second incident took place while she was sleeping with her siblings, when her father assaulted her again. The situation came to light when the complainant’s oldest sister witnessed the father in the act.
Justice Sharma firmly dismissed the father’s denial of the accusations, stating that the defense was not credible given the overwhelming evidence. He criticized the assertion that the allegations were fabricated by the complainant’s aunt and underscored the indecency of the acts committed against the girl, which any reasonable person would find objectionable.
This case sheds light on the crucial need for victims to speak out and for authorities to take allegations seriously to ensure justice is served. It also highlights the importance of vigilance among family members to protect vulnerable individuals from such heinous acts. By bringing this case to light, it opens doors for discussions about the often-hidden issue of abuse within familial settings.
In summary, the conviction not only brings a measure of justice for the victim, but it also serves as a reminder of society’s role in safeguarding children against abuse and promoting awareness of such critical issues.
