A 38-year-old man from Vidogo Settlement in Vatuwaqa is set to appear in Suva Magistrate Court tomorrow, facing a charge of murder. The incident occurred during a New Year’s Eve gathering where the victim, a 32-year-old manager, was present among several others for a night of drinking.
On New Year’s Day around 10:00 AM, a dispute erupted, leading to the suspect assaulting the victim, who was found lying still on the floor afterward. The suspect took the victim to CWM Hospital, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries there.
Investigators have gathered evidence, including testimonies from the six witnesses who were at the party, which helped clarify the chain of events that unfolded. The man is being charged under Section 312 of the Crimes Act of 2009 and will face legal proceedings in court tomorrow.
This situation highlights the importance of responsible behavior during social gatherings and the tragic consequences that can arise from alcohol-fueled conflicts. It serves as a reminder to prioritize safety and wellness in social settings, especially in festive circumstances where emotions can run high.
