A 38-year-old man from Vidogo Settlement in Vatuwaqa is set to appear in Suva Magistrates Court tomorrow on charges of murder. The incident took place over New Year’s Eve, when the accused reportedly engaged in a drinking party with a 32-year-old victim, who served as a manager, along with six others.
The situation escalated into violence early New Year’s Day around 10:00 AM, leading to the suspect allegedly assaulting the victim until he collapsed. Following the altercation, the suspect took the victim to CWM Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators obtained statements from the six eyewitnesses present during the drinking party, which aided in piecing together the events that led to the tragic outcome. The accused has been charged under Section 312 of the Crimes Act of 2009 for one count of murder and will face the legal system as proceedings continue.
This case underscores the urgent need for conflict resolution education and support within communities to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring in the future. As the legal process unfolds, it is hoped that the incident will foster greater awareness around the consequences of violence and promote healthier forms of social interaction.
