Fatal Accident Shocks Fiji Police: Urgent Call for Driver Caution

The Fiji Police Traffic Department is urging drivers to take speeding warnings seriously after a 21-year-old man tragically lost his life in Tavua yesterday afternoon.

Director of Traffic, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, indicated that preliminary information from traffic investigators suggests speeding as the likely cause of the fatal accident.

The accident happened on the Kings Road near Draunivi, Tavua, when the young man was reportedly attempting to overtake another vehicle. It is alleged that he lost control of his car during the maneuver, resulting in a crash.

The victim was immediately taken to Tavua Hospital and admitted but, sadly, succumbed to his injuries this morning.

Four passengers who were traveling with the victim have received medical treatment.

Currently, the road death toll stands at 31, compared to 57 during the same period last year.
