The Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran, paid her respects yesterday to Semi Bukarau, a senior welfare officer in her ministry who passed away last week after a brief illness. Ms. Kiran led a delegation from her ministry as they accompanied Mr. Bukarau on his final journey.
“It’s a heartbreaking farewell for an officer who dedicated himself to serving our people. Mr. Bukarau’s contributions to the welfare sector were significant, and the ministry is deeply grateful for his dedication and commitment. His death is a loss felt across the communities he served,” said Ms. Kiran.
At the age of 47, Mr. Bukarau had a distinguished 27-year career in the Fiji Civil Service, with 24 of those years devoted to his role as a welfare officer within the Ministry of Women, Children, and Social Protection. Joining Ms. Kiran in honoring Mr. Bukarau were Permanent Secretary Eseta Nadakuitavuki, Commissioner Central Josefa Navuku, and various staff members from the ministry.
The tribute not only acknowledges Mr. Bukarau’s individual contributions but also reflects the critical role that dedicated public servants play in building and uplifting communities. This moment serves as a poignant reminder of the compassion and commitment necessary in public service. Although the community mourns the loss, they can find comfort in the lasting positive impact Mr. Bukarau made throughout his career, inspiring future generations to continue his legacy of service.
His memory will undoubtedly motivate others to engage meaningfully in community welfare, reaffirming the profound impacts one individual can have on society.
