The Director of the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO), Vasiti Soko, is set to begin a new journey in the United States, marking the end of her significant role in disaster management communications in Fiji. Ms. Soko has been a prominent figure during natural disasters, providing critical information on precautionary measures and evacuation procedures.
She was honored at a farewell event on Thursday evening attended by the Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Sakiasi Ditoka, along with Assistant Minister Jovesa Vocea. Mr. Ditoka praised Ms. Soko for her remarkable contributions, highlighting her leadership in transforming the NDMO into a model of excellence recognized for its proactive strategies and innovative approaches in disaster preparedness and mitigation.
Over her five-year tenure, Ms. Soko made history as the first woman to hold the director position, working diligently to enhance the national disaster management framework and better equip communities to face the increasing challenges posed by climate change and natural disasters.
