Hundreds of mourners gathered at the Holy Trinity Anglican Cathedral in Suva to honor the late Ema Bavoro, the CEO of the St John Association of Fiji, during her funeral service. Attendees included distinguished figures such as former President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, current President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, members of the Diplomatic Corps, and various other dignitaries.

In her heartfelt eulogy, Uliana Bavoro, Ema’s daughter, described her mother as a devoted prayer warrior who emphasized the importance of prayer. She reflected on her mother’s dual commitment to her professional role within the organization and her responsibilities at home.

Adi Lola Tuiloma, president of the Retired Nurses Association, celebrated Ms. Bavoro’s remarkable dedication to nursing, noting that she was the first midwife to independently run three natal clinics. Tuiloma highlighted that Ms. Bavoro’s success was rooted in her practical skills rather than solely academic knowledge.

Tuiloma also acknowledged Ms. Bavoro’s influence beyond Fiji, mentioning her role in developing the nursing curriculum in Palau and expressing gratitude for the legacy she contributed to nursing in Fiji and the Pacific.

Dr. Ratu Vereniki Raiwalui, chairman of St John Fiji National Council, praised Ms. Bavoro for her kindness and selflessness, emphasizing her commitment to providing modern healthcare at exceptional standards. He noted that her dedication to Christian values and her faith mirrored her commitment to the order of St John.

Ema Bavoro served the St John Association for 38 years until her passing on September 5, 2024.
