A family in Malawai, Nadi, has been rendered homeless after a fire engulfed their two-storey, seven-bedroom house, along with their longstanding shop and Kava Bar early yesterday morning. The property, owned by Abdul Munaf, had been the family’s business for over 35 years.

Nazil Nabeel, Mr. Munaf’s son, explained that the shop was closed Saturday night and all family members were asleep when the blaze began. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Mr. Munaf stated, “The fire is believed to have started from the back. My two-bedroom apartment, the shop, and the Kava bar are all downstairs. Upstairs was our family home with five bedrooms.” He lamented, “We could save nothing except the clothes we were wearing. Right now, we are homeless and don’t know where to stay. My parents are currently at a friend’s house.”

He expressed the emotional toll of the loss, saying, “We were in tears witnessing all that we have worked for being destroyed in the flames.” The estimated damage is reported to exceed $100,000.

The National Fire Authority has confirmed that its officers are investigating the incident, and local police are also looking into the matter.
