The family of Shabreen Shain Ali, a 28-year-old woman found dead in Raiwaqa, Suva, is seeking justice for their daughter. Anjila Wati Prasad, Ali’s mother, expressed that the details regarding her daughter’s death provided by the police do not align with prior information communicated to her.
Shireen Shristi Shankar, Ali’s younger sister, joined her mother in mourning, recounting her shock upon receiving the heartbreaking news. She revealed that the only way to identify Ali’s body was through a tattoo featuring her partner’s name on her arm, as her face was severely bruised.
“My brother-in-law said he could not recognize her face due to the bruises,” Shankar stated. She remains hopeful that justice will prevail and that the perpetrator will be apprehended.
The police confirmed that an investigation is ongoing and refrained from speculating on the incident’s circumstances. They allege that Ali, a mother of two, suffered grave injuries allegedly inflicted by her partner using a sharp object.
Ms. Prasad shared that although her daughter visited a few months prior, they were unable to meet. “She came home on April 26, but I didn’t see her. Last Saturday, she was at her partner’s house and returned to the Raiwaqa property on Sunday, which belongs to a close friend of hers,” Ms. Prasad recounted.
