A family of five has lost their home following a fire that completely destroyed their two-bedroom house in Rarawai, Ba, on Wednesday night. Manoj Kumar, a retired employee of the Fiji Sugar Corporation, expressed his devastation as he watched the blaze consume the home he has shared with his wife and three children for the past 50 years.

The incident occurred around 10:30 pm while Mr. Kumar was at a nearby service station picking up his family. He recounted, “It happened really quickly. When we returned, our house was on fire, and we could not save anything.” At the time of the fire, no one was at home.

The fire is believed to have originated from one of the rooms, but police are still investigating the cause. Mr. Kumar confirmed that it was not due to an electrical fault. “It’s a family house; we have lived there for 50 years. We’ve lost everything except for a few clothes,” he stated. The family is currently staying with relatives in Rarawai.

Mr. Kumar has reached out for assistance, stating that they need financial help to rebuild their home, as well as food and clothing. Attempts to contact the National Fire Authority’s CEO, Puamau Sowane, for further information went unanswered. Those who wish to assist Mr. Kumar and his family can reach out to him directly at 9953371.
