Family Left Homeless After Nadi Blaze Destroys Generational Business

A family in Malawai, Nadi, has been left homeless after a fire consumed their two-storey, seven-bedroom house, as well as their shop and Kava Bar, early yesterday morning. The property, owned by Abdul Munaf, had served as a family business for over 35 years.

Nazil Nabeel, Mr. Munaf’s son, indicated that the shop was closed on Saturday night and all family members were asleep when the fire ignited. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

“The fire is believed to have started from the back. My two-bedroom apartment, as well as the shop and Kava bar, were located downstairs, and our family home with five bedrooms was upstairs,” Mr. Munaf explained.

He lamented the total loss, stating, “There is nothing that we could save except the clothes we were wearing. Right now, we are homeless and don’t know where to stay. My parents are at a friend’s place.”

He described the situation as a painful experience, saying, “We were in tears witnessing everything we worked for being destroyed in the flames.” The estimated damage is reported to exceed $100,000.

Officials from the National Fire Authority confirmed their attendance at the scene and are conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire, which is also being looked into by the police.
