The family of Eparama Dremoka, a young rugby player from Marist Brothers High School who passed away, has opted for forgiveness rather than taking action after discovering his grave was burned last Friday. The Dremoka family had only recently laid their son to rest in June when they were alerted to a viral social media post showcasing images of the charred grave at Lovonilase Cemetery in Walu Bay, Suva, along with ashes where flowers once were.
Kaminieli Dremoka, Eparama’s father, expressed his deep emotional turmoil as he spoke about the incident. “I can’t say anything because I don’t know anything. Pursuing this would bring more hurt to us as his parents, so we have talked about it as a couple and have chosen to forgive,” he stated. He reflected on the possibility that someone may have had ill feelings toward his son but emphasized their decision to let go of anger.
Mr. Dremoka recalled the moment he and his family learned about the disturbing news while they were in Nadi. He pondered how his son would have reacted to such a situation. “My son was full of positivity; this is the devil’s work to bring more anger and hatred among us,” he said.
He also expressed gratitude towards the supportive parents of Eparama’s under-16 teammates, who came together the following Saturday to clean the grave site. “When we came back on Saturday afternoon to check, the grave was like it was before,” he mentioned. Mr. Dremoka appreciated the continuous support from the team and their families, recognizing them as true brothers who have stood by them since Eparama’s passing.
