A family in Malawai, Nadi, has lost their home and business after a fire ravaged their two-storey, seven-bedroom residence, as well as their shop and Kava Bar, early yesterday morning. The property, owned by Abdul Munaf, had served as a family business for over 35 years.
Nazil Nabeel, Mr. Munaf’s son, shared that the shop had been closed the previous night and all family members were asleep when the fire ignited. The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation.
Mr. Munaf reported, “The fire is believed to have started from the back. My two-bedroom apartment, the shop, and Kava Bar are all located downstairs, while our family home with five bedrooms was upstairs.”
The family was unable to salvage anything from the fire except the clothes they wore at the time. “At this moment, we are homeless and unsure of where to go. My parents are staying at a friend’s house,” he added.
Reflecting on the tragedy, he emphasized the emotional toll, stating, “We were in tears witnessing all that we have worked for being destroyed in the flames.” The estimated damage is expected to exceed $100,000.
The National Fire Authority has confirmed that officers responded to the scene and are investigating the cause of the fire, and the police are also conducting an inquiry.
