Family Blames Devastating Fire for $100,000 Loss and Homelessness

A family in Nadi, Fiji, is now homeless following a catastrophic fire that consumed their two-storey, seven-bedroom residence along with their shop and Kava Bar. The fire occurred yesterday morning in Malawai and has left the family grappling with significant loss.

The property, owned by Abdul Munaf, served as a family business for over 35 years. His son, Nazil Nabeel, shared that the shop was closed the previous Saturday night and all family members were asleep when the fire ignited. Authorities are currently investigating the fire’s cause.

Mr. Munaf explained that the blaze likely started from the back of the property. The family’s living space, which includes a two-bedroom apartment, a shop, and the Kava Bar, was located on the ground floor, while the five-bedroom home was on the upper level.

“We couldn’t save anything except the clothes we were wearing. Right now, we are homeless and uncertain about where to go. My parents are staying with a friend,” Nabeel said, expressing the deep emotional toll of the loss.

He noted that the estimated damages exceed $100,000. The National Fire Authority’s officers have responded to the incident and confirmed that an investigation is underway, with the police also involved in the inquiry.
