Faith Leaders Unite for Ecumenical Prayer Service to Protect Creation

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Suva, alongside multiple Faith-Based Organizations, is set to hold an Ecumenical and Interreligious Season of Creation Prayer Service on Thursday, October 3, 2024. The event will take place at Ratu Sukuna Park from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM.

The Season of Creation, which runs annually from September 1 to October 4, is a global celebration focused on prayer and action aimed at protecting the environment. This season is a time to honor God as the Creator and acknowledge the Earth as a divine gift that calls for our collective care and preservation.

This year’s theme, “To Hope and Act with Creation,” encourages people of faith to respond with hope to the pressing environmental challenges such as climate change, loss of biodiversity, and pollution. While many are facing eco-anxiety, individuals are urged to draw strength from their faith and engage in meaningful actions through prayer, service, and solidarity.

Archbishop Peter Loy Chong, the leader of the Catholic Church in Fiji, emphasized the importance of unity in this cause. He stated, “It is important that we all work together through our faith to amplify the message of protecting our common home, which is one of the key messages at this Ecumenical Service.”

The organizers hope that attendees will join in amplifying the call for environmental stewardship and recognize the role of faith in safeguarding the planet, uniting in prayer and action for the Earth.
