Putting God first, family second, and rugby league third has been a guiding principle behind the exceptional success of the Vodafone Fiji Bati, who recently secured a commanding victory against the Cook Islands in the second round of the Pacific Bowl Championship, held at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
Waqa Blake, a 30-year-old centre for the Bati, emphasized the importance of this motto in their impressive performance, culminating in a 56-6 win. He expressed immense pride in representing his country, especially after a long absence from home games.
“It was a great win, and we recovered well from the disappointing match against Papua New Guinea last weekend. Achieving this result is fantastic,” said Blake. “We haven’t played here in Fiji for quite some time, so seeing the fans here and singing the national anthem means a lot to me.”
Blake pointed out that the team’s dedication to their values of faith, family, and rugby league was crucial in driving their success, highlighting their confidence and unity. He also encouraged the Cook Islands to regroup for their next match against Papua New Guinea, wishing them luck.
“This match serves as a good preparation for the Cook Islands, and I hope they can bounce back next week against PNG to secure a win, which could give us a chance to return to Australia,” he stated.
Blake also recognized the role of divine strength and guidance in their performance and expressed gratitude towards the fans for their steadfast support.
The PNG Kumuls are scheduled to face the Cook Islands in Port Moresby this Sunday at 3 PM.
