The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, has called upon religious organizations in Fiji to assist the government in addressing drug-related challenges. During the 50th anniversary event of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Fiji, he expressed concern over the rising influx of hard drugs within the nation.
Prasad highlighted the alarming increase in drug cases among school students and youths, stating that immediate action is necessary to curb this trend. He emphasized the vital role that faith-based organizations can play in combating drug abuse and advocated for collaboration between the government and these groups.
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his belief that organizations like ISKCON could significantly contribute to the fight against drugs. He urged everyone to unite in tackling the social problems confronting society, suggesting that practicing values of humility, service, and devotion would lead to a more peaceful and progressive community.
He acknowledged ISKCON Fiji’s dedication to promoting a lifestyle that aligns with the government’s vision of nation-building based on love, unity, sustainability, and environmental awareness. By encouraging simplicity, self-sufficiency, and harmony with nature, ISKCON fosters a mindful approach to living, enriching both the environment and spiritual wellbeing.
