The Fiji Australia Business Council (FABC) has successfully elected its new executive committee during the annual general meeting held on Tuesday. Himen Chandra has taken over the role of president from Vera Chute, with Christine Lyons, the general manager of Fiji Times Pte Ltd, and former chief executive of the Fiji Development Bank, Saud Minam, stepping in as vice presidents.
Bruce Sutton has been appointed as treasurer, rounding out a dynamic team that includes immediate past president Vera Chute and committee members Mark Halabe, Lisa Apted, Glenis Yee, Rabih Yazbek, Shane Smith, Ajay Raniga, and Tim Joyce.
In his acceptance speech, President Chandra expressed gratitude for the previous leadership that guided the council through significant transitions. He emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating, “With two very strong vice presidents at my side together with the rest of the executive committee and the support of our members, I am confident that we can lead the council forward.”
Chandra highlighted the council’s ongoing mission to serve as a vital platform for fostering opportunities and economic growth. He articulated a vision for building upon past successes while leveraging the collective expertise of the council to advance shared objectives between Fiji and Australia.
In a positive note for the organization, the FABC reported a record membership of 155 members this year, affirming its commitment to representing the business community and enhancing bilateral relations between the two nations.
