A Chinese scoping team is set to visit Rewa to evaluate the province’s development potential. Following a recent trip to China, Roko Tui Dreketi, Ro Teimumu Kepa, announced that the team would arrive in Rewa to begin their assessments in September. Their mission is to evaluate local resources and determine the best ways to use them to benefit the residents of Rewa.
Ro Teimumu clarified that the team’s primary goal is not to give direct recommendations on agricultural growth but rather to identify potential opportunities and capabilities within the province. “We initially do not need a technical team to tell us what can be grown,” she stated. “We need to see what is possible.”
The Chinese team will explore various areas of Rewa in September, followed by meetings of the tikina and provincial councils. These gatherings will update the community on poverty alleviation initiatives inspired by the Chinese model and include discussions with the Great Council of Chiefs.
Emphasizing that the focus will be on technical assistance rather than financial aid, Ro Teimumu said, “This will be a pilot project. We must start small and currently aim to help the villages that need it the most. The plan is to begin with something visible and grow from there.”
