Students from Uciwai District School on Moala Island had the chance to expand their horizons at a recent Careers Expo held at Yasayasa Moala College. The event, organized by the Ministry of Education, saw students from years 6 to 8 participating under the guidance of their teacher, Jonacani Kotobalavu.
The Expo, which traveled through the Lau group, featured exhibits from various stakeholders, including Fiji National University. Kotobalavu highlighted the importance of providing students with exposure to opportunities beyond their island. He stated, “Learning is not just limited to our island; there’s always a bigger picture out there.” He underscored how crucial such expos are as students get ready to transition to secondary school and eventually to universities.
During the event, students visited multiple booths and learned about diverse educational pathways. Kotobalavu, who is an alumnus of FNU, remarked that having institutions like FNU participate in the expo allows students to consider their future options. He emphasized, “This moment is important for our students to come and explore because they are building their futures,” pointing out the positive influence such initiatives have in remote maritime areas.
