Ratu Suliano Matanitobua, the Tui Namosi, has asked for forgiveness from the people of the province for the lack of clear information regarding the province’s company. The company, Namosi Development Company Ltd (NDCL), was established in 1994 and has been operating for 30 years.
Originally, the plan was for the company to be owned by the province, but it ended up being owned by a few shareholders. This issue was raised during the Namosi Provincial Council Meeting held at the Pearl Resort, Pacific Harbour, last Thursday.
Minister for Local Government and council member Maciu Katamotu questioned the management of the company on behalf of concerned provincial members. Katamotu stated the community wants the company to be profitable and well-managed. He suggested a restructuring might be necessary to ensure the company is provincially owned.
Ratu Suliano revealed that for 20 years, he had been trying to establish a committee or think tank for the province to oversee the company’s operations. This committee was only recently formed last week and will now take charge. During his two-year incarceration at Naboro Correctional Facility, Ratu Suliano had been making plans for the provincial company.
He noted that out of the four shareholders of the company, three had passed away, leaving him as the sole remaining shareholder. An audit meeting will be called, and the company’s financial plans will be presented to the community.
