Exclusive: Tui Namosi’s Request Raises Eyebrows

The Tui Namosi, Ratu Suliano Matanitobua, is seeking forgiveness from the people of his province due to the lack of clear communication regarding the provincial company’s affairs.

The company, known as Namosi Development Company Ltd (NDCL), was established in 1994 and has been operational for 30 years.

Initially, the company’s plan was to be owned by the province. However, it didn’t pan out that way, as only a few individuals hold shares in the company.

This issue was discussed during the Provincial Council meeting held at the Pearl Resort, Pacific Harbour, on Thursday this week.

Minister for Local Government and meeting member, Maciu Katamotu, inquired about the current operations of the provincial company.

Katamotu raised these concerns on behalf of the provincial members who are worried about the ongoing issues.

“We want the company to thrive and generate profit. The people need to know if the company will be restructured and to have assurance that it is owned by the province.

“I hope a special meeting will be called soon to discuss these concerns, as the people are anxious and have numerous questions,” Katamotu stated.

Ratu Suliano mentioned that he has been attempting for 20 years to establish a provincial committee or think tank to oversee the company’s operations. This effort was only realized last week, and now the committee will oversee the company’s management.

Throughout his two-year stint at the Naboro Correctional Facility, he has been planning for the provincial company’s future.

He noted that out of the initial four shareholders, all have passed away, leaving him as the sole remaining shareholder.

“A meeting will be called, and an auditor will present the company’s financial plans to the public,” Ratu Suliano said.
