Fiji’s first authorized reseller of Starlink’s satellite broadband Internet has reported being inundated with inquiries from the public, leading to the pre-sale of 60 percent of its initial shipment of 600 units even before their arrival.

Lightspeed Fiji Pte Ltd received its license to resell Starlink’s broadband satellite internet service just last week, and the overwhelming demand may necessitate a swift restocking.

Company director Richard Broadbridge highlighted significant interest from rural Fiji. “Our primary focus is to provide internet to rural areas, and we’ve received numerous inquiries from regions such as Lau, Kadavu, and the outer islands. Inquiries have been pouring in through our Facebook page, and we’ve been inundated with requests,” Broadbridge stated.

“While there is mobile coverage in rural areas, many people require faster internet. The demand for 3G services is no longer adequate for many rural residents,” he added.

Broadbridge mentioned that around 600 units of stock are expected to arrive in four to six weeks, with 60 percent already pre-sold, indicating the high level of interest in Starlink’s internet service. The company has been engaged in extensive meetings with government agencies, tourism organizations, and individuals.

Lightspeed Fiji is authorized to resell Starlink’s services exclusively to businesses and maritime entities, including ships. “In our initial shipment, we have 20 antennas for ships, and as of this morning, only one remains. The demand is so high that we will likely need to order a second batch of stock soon,” Broadbridge said.

“We are very pleased with the interest shown, which gives Starlink a lot of confidence in Fiji,” he concluded.
