A sub-clan in Nadi is experiencing a positive shift in business following government support. Recently, Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica presented a new excavator to Tokatoka Namara Development Pte Ltd, marking a vital advancement in promoting rural entrepreneurship and sustainable growth.

The addition of the excavator is expected to relieve financial pressures on the company and enhance productivity. The business has diversified into gravel extraction, harnessing local resources to develop a sustainable operation that benefits the members of Sikituru Village.

Mr. Kamikamica underscored the government’s dedication to offering equal opportunities for traditional landowners and commended the local community for successfully establishing their business. He highlighted an investment of $78,666.67 from the Integrated Human Resource Development Programme, which reflects the belief in rural enterprises as drivers of economic progress.

He also acknowledged the difficulties that micro and small businesses encounter when trying to secure financing. The government is prioritizing innovative funding solutions, including small grants and crowdfunding.

Community members were encouraged to participate in forthcoming public consultations regarding the Access to Business Funding Bill, which aims to introduce alternative financing options.

The new excavator is set to improve operations, leading to higher production and greater efficiency, which will ultimately benefit the local economy. Mr. Kamikamica noted, “This event exemplifies the resilience and creativity of our rural population. Together, we reaffirm our commitment to nurturing rural entrepreneurship and creating a prosperous future for all Fijians.”

Company director Vilikisa Sayabo expressed gratitude to the government for their support. He remarked, “We established our business two years ago. We began gravel extraction, purchased a truck, but had to hire an excavator from a contractor. This year, through the government’s cooperation, we successfully received this machine. It will streamline our work and double our production, significantly increasing our revenue.”
