A sub-clan in Nadi is experiencing a boost in its business thanks to timely support from the government. Last week, Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica, who also serves as the Minister for External Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Communications, presented a new excavator to Tokatoka Namara Development Pte Ltd in Nadi. This initiative marks a significant effort in promoting rural entrepreneurship and sustainable development.

The new excavator is expected to alleviate financial pressures on the company and enhance its productivity. The business has expanded into gravel extraction, making use of local resources to establish a sustainable operation that will benefit the residents of Sikituru Village.

During the event, Mr. Kamikamica highlighted the government’s dedication to ensuring equal opportunities for traditional landowners and commended the local community for their efforts in building a successful enterprise. He stated, “This investment of $78,666.67, funded through the Integrated Human Resource Development Programme, demonstrates our belief in the potential of rural enterprises to drive economic growth.”

He acknowledged the difficulties that micro and small enterprises encounter in securing financing, reaffirming the government’s commitment to exploring innovative funding solutions, including small loans and crowdfunding initiatives.

The excavator is anticipated to improve operational efficiency and production levels, providing significant benefits to the local economy. “The event showcases the resilience and creativity of our rural communities. Together, we reaffirm our commitment to empowering rural entrepreneurship and building a prosperous future for all Fijians,” he added.

Vilikisa Sayabo, the company director, expressed gratitude to the government for their support. He explained, “We started our business two years ago. With gravel extraction, we purchased a truck, but we still had to hire an excavator from a contractor. With this cooperation from the government, we were able to receive this machine, which will significantly ease our work and double our production. This will lead to increased revenue for us.”
