“Ethical Challenges Ahead: Fiji Police Narcotics Bureau Officers Reminded to Stay Strong”

Newly inducted officers of the Fiji Police Narcotics Bureau were today reminded of the importance of maintaining strong ethical standards in a field considered vulnerable worldwide.

The reminder came from Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Fisi Nasario, the Director of the Narcotics Bureau, during his welcome address to the new officers aiming to bolster the Bureau’s efforts.

“Ask any law enforcement agency, and they will tell you that the Narcotics Bureau is always a vulnerable department. This is experienced across global policing. However, the principles, values, and ethics of the Fiji Police Force remain unchanged. Nothing should ever change,” SSP Nasario emphasized.

“You will be tested as time goes on. The principles, values, and ethics will be tested, and I urge you to reflect on your responsibilities, the people you are tasked to protect, and the reasons for your selection,” he added.

Currently, officers from the Narcotics Bureau are stationed across all five policing divisions. While resource challenges persist, SSP Nasario highlighted the importance of leveraging partnerships and community support as the way forward.

“More than 90 percent of the population are law-abiding citizens who are concerned and willing to help. Many of our law-abiding citizens have significantly contributed by providing information leading to successful drug raids and busts,” he said.

“The Government and other institutions share the same concerns and have expressed their willingness to act.”

“Our foreign counterparts have been providing guidance, assistance, and support. We are pushing forward, tailoring our strategies based on our resources and capabilities, but we will never give up. We will be aggressive and direct in our efforts, and I urge you all to be steadfast and do your best,” he concluded.
