Ethan’s Swim Journey: From Rugby Dreams to National Stage Success

Ethan John, an enthusiastic swimmer from the Seals Swimming Club, is making waves in the competitive swimming scene at the Fiji Swimming Age National competition held at the Damodar Aquatic Centre in Laucala Bay. In just three years, Ethan has climbed the ranks, earning second place in two events and a commendable third in the 50m butterfly race.

Initially interested in rugby, Ethan’s passion shifted to swimming after his mother expressed safety concerns about the sport. This transition has led him to find joy and success in the pool. “My mom never allowed me to play rugby, but she always encouraged me to swim,” Ethan explained.

Currently a student at Central High School, Ethan manages to juggle a rigorous academic workload alongside his training. He acknowledges the challenges of balancing these commitments, stating, “Since I am in school, I have a hard time balancing these two.”

In moments of difficulty, Ethan draws strength from his faith: “Whenever I’m struggling, I ask the Lord for guidance.” His dedication to swimming goes beyond personal achievement; he aims to make his family proud while also inspiring others. He encourages aspiring swimmers with the mantra, “For those thinking about swimming, remember it’s mind over matter. If you set your mind to it, you can achieve anything.”
