Epeli Leiroti Shines with Golden Ball Glory in Giants Battle

Epeli Leiroti of Lautoka received top honors at the conclusion of the 2024 Rooster Chicken/Scoops Ice-Cream Battle of the Giants in Suva. The 29-year-old national representative was awarded the prestigious Golden Ball for his significant role in Lautoka’s success throughout the five-day tournament.

Initially starting as a defender, Leiroti made crucial adjustments by moving into midfield during the semifinal and final matches to replace the suspended Sitiveni Cavuilagi, who received a red card in Lautoka’s final group stage against Navua.

Leiroti, a former player for Nadroga, Suva, and the Fiji U23 team, is the sibling of Aporosa Yada and son of renowned Lautoka and national scorer Josefata Malakai. His performances as both a defender and a midfield leader were instrumental in Lautoka’s campaign.

Coach Shivam Raj praised Leiroti for his leadership qualities and invaluable contributions. “He is a good leader and motivator in the team. His work rate is amazing. He gives his all for the district every time he steps on the field, and we are fortunate to have a player like Epeli,” Raj stated.

Raj further emphasized Leiroti’s role as a mentor for the younger players, asserting that his calm demeanor enhances the team’s environment. Leiroti, alongside teammates like Ilimotama Jese, Saula Waqa, Sakaraia Naisua, Zibraaz Sahib, and Antonio Tuivuna, has been pivotal in the team’s achievements this season.

As part of the award, Leiroti received a trophy and a $1000 shopping voucher, generously provided by Extra Supermarket and Mirchi FM.
