Environmental Alarm: Logging Waste Threatens Marine Life in Bua

Concerns are mounting that waste from logging companies may soon be entering the sea off Bua. Aisea Rabitukoli, a conservation officer in the region, expressed worries about potential environmental degradation within the province.

He stated, “We fear that their waste could harm the ecosystem and disrupt the balance of the marine environment.” Rabitukoli noted that logging operations produce significant amounts of waste, and while some of it is managed responsibly, there are concerns that some refuse could be ending up in the ocean.

During a workshop held by the Wildlife Conservation Society, Rabitukoli urged that the Ministry of Environment needs to take action. “We have been trying to address this issue this week, but I believe with government intervention, it will be resolved as soon as possible,” he added.

In response, Kalikeni Sirivalu from the Department of Environment acknowledged Rabitukoli’s concerns and assured that he would inform his team to visit the affected areas and address the situation urgently.
