Ensuring Accountability: A Game-Changer for Governance

Attorney General Graham Leung has announced that the establishment of the Accountability and Transparency Commission will ensure public officials are held accountable, resulting in fairer treatment of citizens.

During his first speech in Parliament this week, Leung emphasized his firm belief that creating the commission was both crucial and long overdue. He declared his commitment to implementing the necessary legislative measures to establish the commission.

“This will be a significant step towards promoting good governance, reducing corruption, and building trust among our people,” stated Leung.

“The commission will introduce greater accountability in government, ensuring public officials face scrutiny, which will lead to fairer treatment of citizens. When the public understands how decisions are made and funds are allocated and expended, it will enhance their confidence in government and our democratic institutions.

“The commission, once established, will contribute to good governance, aligning with Fiji’s National Development Plan and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.”
