The Fiji Police Force is calling on the community to join hands in ensuring a secure and enjoyable environment during the upcoming Fiji Primary Schools Tuckers Ice Cream Games, set to take place at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva on November 28-29.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized the role of community policing officers who are actively collaborating with school authorities to guarantee the safety and security of all participating schools.
Driu urged parents, guardians, and teachers to remain vigilant about the safety of children, advising them to maintain open lines of communication to help prevent students from falling into negative peer pressure. “Please keep talking to your children. Communication is vital, as they can easily be swayed by their peers,” he said.
He recommended that parents establish regular check-in times with their children, get to know the parents of their friends, and have a designated safe meeting spot for emergencies.
“Setting up check-in times ensures you are aware of their whereabouts and activities. Connecting with friends’ parents is also essential. Designating a safe meeting point is crucial in case of any unforeseen circumstances,” Driu added.
Moreover, he assured the public that security measures will be in effect at the events and nearby areas, including traffic control, warning any potential criminals to stay away from the event.
“We will implement necessary security measures that will encompass not only the venue but also manage traffic and surrounding areas, anticipating an influx of people into Suva as a result of the games,” Driu stated.
Drivers are advised to exercise caution in school zones and near the event. Additionally, Driu reminded parents to have discussions with their children about the possible repercussions of risky behavior.
The Fiji Police Force extends its best wishes to all participants for a successful and safe event.
This event represents a wonderful opportunity for children to engage in healthy competition and foster community spirit, reinforcing the importance of safety and communication in ensuring a positive experience for everyone involved.
