Enhancing Ethics in the Fiji Police Narcotics Bureau

Newly inducted officers of the Fiji Police Narcotics Bureau were reminded today of the importance of maintaining strong ethical standards in a field of policing that is globally considered vulnerable.

The reminder was delivered by Director Narcotics Bureau, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Fisi Nasario, as he welcomed the new officers to strengthen the Bureau’s efforts.

“Ask any law enforcement agency, and they will tell you that the Narcotics Bureau is always a vulnerable department. This is a reality faced worldwide. However, the principles, values, and ethics of the Fiji Police Force remain constant. These should never change.”

SSP Nasario continued, “As time progresses, your principles, values, and ethics will be tested. I urge you to consider your responsibilities, who you are protecting, and why you were chosen among others.”

Currently, officers from the Narcotics Bureau are based in all five policing divisions. Despite resource challenges, the Director emphasized the importance of leveraging partnerships and community support moving forward.

“More than 90 percent of the population are law-abiding citizens who are concerned and willing to assist. Many of our law-abiding citizens have been instrumental in providing information leading to successful illicit drug raids and busts.”

“The Government and other institutions share our concerns and express their willingness to act.”

“Our foreign counterparts have been offering guidance, assistance, and support. We are moving forward by customizing our strategies according to our resources and capabilities, but we will never give up. We will be aggressive and direct in our approach, and I urge you all to remain steadfast and do your best,” he added.
