Stefano Mocci has been appointed as the World Bank Group’s Country Manager for Fiji, a role created to streamline leadership at the country level and better align with Fiji’s public and private sector priorities.
This new position offers a central access point to the full range of World Bank Group products and services, aiming to enhance the institution’s capacity to tackle global challenges and drive development with greater efficiency, impact, and speed.
“We are committed to this new and unified leadership approach that will enable us to better support the country’s public and private sector to better serve the people of Fiji,” said Mocci. “Unified Bank Group leadership will improve our speed and make us a better partner to the government, the private sector, and ultimately the people we serve.”
The World Bank Group’s focus areas in Fiji include strengthening economic and climate resilience, developing social protection and health systems, enhancing the sustainability of the tourism sector, increasing gender inclusion, and improving the resilience of infrastructure.
Furthermore, the Bank Group is dedicated to supporting private sector development by improving the investment environment and enhancing environmental, social, and governance practices.
Before this role, Mocci has held various positions within the World Bank Group, most recently serving as World Bank Country Manager for the South Pacific and Papua New Guinea. He also possesses experience in middle-income countries and regions affected by conflict and violence.
